All for Lunch brings schools, donors, and communities together to help eliminate the burden of unpaid school meal balances. What started with a simple idea has grown into a nationwide effort to make a meaningful difference for students and the schools that serve them
Our mission is to eliminate school lunch debt by partnering directly with schools and communities to pay off unpaid student meal balances, ensuring no child’s access to lunch is impacted by financial hardship.
When students have reliable access to nutritious meals, they are better equipped to learn, grow, and thrive. By removing the burden of unpaid meal balances, we help create a more supportive school environment for students, families, and educators alike
Through the generosity of donors and the dedication of our school partners, we’re working to ensure that every student can focus on what matters most: learning, not lunch debt.
All for Lunch was founded in 2017 after our founder, Alessandra Ferrara-Miller, learned about a young elementary school student who was publicly shamed because of unpaid school lunch debt. As the mother of a kindergartener at the time, she was heartbroken by the thought that a child could lose access to lunch at school because of their family’s financial situation. She soon discovered that school lunch debt was a widespread issue affecting students across the country and knew something had to change.
What began as a simple Facebook fundraiser to pay off lunch debt at a local school quickly grew into a nationwide nonprofit dedicated to ensuring every child has access to lunch at school, regardless of their financial situation at home. Today, All for Lunch partners directly with schools across the United States to eliminate unpaid student meal balances, establish reserve funds for future needs, and help remove the financial barriers that can impact a student’s school day.
Our values are at the heart of everything we do. They guide how we serve schools, support students, and build meaningful partnerships with donors, businesses, foundations, and communities across the country.

Our values are at the heart of everything we do. They guide how we serve schools, support students, and build meaningful partnerships with donors, businesses, foundations, and communities across the country.

Meaningful change happens when people come together. Every donor, business, foundation, and community partner plays an important role in helping students and strengthening the schools they serve. Together, we can create immediate and lasting impact.

We are committed to earning the trust of our donors, partners, and the communities we serve. Through open communication, responsible stewardship, and measurable impact, we ensure every contribution helps make a meaningful difference for students.

School should be a place where every student feels included. No child should lose access to lunch, field trips, school dances, library books, or other educational opportunities because of financial hardship. Every student deserves the opportunity to fully participate in school life.

We believe schools should be focused on educating students, not managing unpaid meal balances. By working directly with school administrators and district leaders, we provide responsive, collaborative support that helps meet the unique needs of each community.

With the burden of unpaid meal balances removed, students can focus on learning, participating, and making the most of their school experience, while schools can focus on supporting student success instead of managing unpaid meal balances.
